When the lights came back on after the big blackout in August of
2003, the residents at a sprawling upscale apartment complex in
Ann Arbor breathed a sigh of relief. That relief was short lived
however, due to a lightning strike and massive 4 alarm fire that
followed. The fire would eventually leave 14 apartments
uninhabitable. With the heat of the summer, and the moisture
from the fire suppression system, the ideal climate for mold
growth was created.
In addition to the damage caused by fire and smoke, mold began
to grow. Left unchecked, the building would have been a total
loss. Approximately 4 months after the blaze Mar-Que was
contracted to perform all of the necessary repairs. With time
being of the essence due to rapidly growing mold, Our crews
contained and then removed the mold from the affected units
prior to the reconstruction. Post remediation testing complete
we were then ready for the reconstruction job at hand. Because
of the loss of revenue to the complex ownership and the peak
rental season in the spring right around the corner, the time
crunch became obvious. A team of project managers was assembled
and repairs began in earnest.
Various Trades and construction crews were scheduled as tightly
as possible working around the clock 7 days a week. The only
stopping points were waiting for city officials to perform the
various inspections that were required. Monthly progress
meetings between the Mar-Que team and the complex management and
owner allowed us obtain all of the necessary material selections
and keep our customer informed as to the progress of the
repairs.
The project and the final building inspections were complete
within 6 months. Well ahead of schedule, and with time to spare
before the peak rental season. The residents, management, and
complex ownership breathed another sigh of relief (With
Caution).
